All Outer Reefs Yachts are ruggedly built to withstand the fury of Mother Nature. Built to open Ocean, category "A" (wave heights 18-20' and sustained winds to over 40 knots) for stability and safety, you can rest assured your Outer Reef will get you to your destination in safety and comfort.
Our shipyard is ISO 9001 (International Organization for Standardization) certified, which guarantees the highest quality design and quality control measures. As well all Outer Reefs are built to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) guidelines for pleasure craft. All vessels built for the European Union are certified in accordance with Recreational Craft Directive, C.E. Directive 94/25/EC and with the mark C.E. Outer Reef also builds to class societies such as Bureau Veritas and Queensland Commercial Survey.

All Outer Reefs are hand laminated with bi-directional laminates and vinylester resins with solid construction below the waterline and cored above with closed cell Divinicell® PVC coring materials. Divinicell is far superior to balsa core and will never rot. All coring is vacuum bagged for superior penetration of resins into to the coring for superior adhesion and strength. The hull is finished with 5 coats of epoxy osmosis barriers for resistance to water infiltration into the laminate.
Our longitudinal and traverse stringer grid systems are constructed of closed cell PVC foam, fully encapsulated with multiple alternating layers of matt fiberglass and Roven Woven. All stringers are constructed with limber hole passages to ensure that any nuisance water drains to the centerline of the hull where is can be evacuated via the bilge pump system and that no water is trapped standing anywhere on the hull, a source of bilge odors.
All Outer Reefs are fabricated from only 3 major molds ensuring watertight integrity and maximum rigidity. With few pieces, tabbing and caulking-in parts are non-existent. With our unitized construction and many opposing angles and surfaces, in one piece of fiberglass, a truss-like structure is created that is self supporting, spanning the entire hull. This allows for flexibility of interior layout that does not dictate placement of interior bearing walls.
Tremendous time and money is invested in our molds to ensure a glass like finish on the gelcoated surfaces. There is no substitute for a perfect mold. The gel coated finish is only as good as the finish on the mold, so it must be perfect!
All Outer Reefs "live in the mold" for an extended period of time until all interior components are installed and properly fiberglassed into place. This ensures that once the boats is released from the mold, there is no chance of deflection or movement, that is common of mass produced boats where you can commonly see on the exterior of the hull where every bulkhead meets the hull. This limits the amount of hulls we can produce, but at Outer Reef Yachts, we stress quality over quantity.
Hull to deck joint is superior in execution with stainless steel bolts @ 6" on center in addition to 3M 5200® adhesive. A proper joint ensures no squeaks, creaks or leaks. All water that collects on deck is routed via gutters and is all drained through a manifold system to a through hull fitting at the waterline. No unsightly black streaks from water going directly overboard.
Decks are finished with either teak decking or fiberglass non-skid, depending on model. The non-skid is a labor intensive diamond pattern, in the mold as compared sprayed on sanded non-skid used by most builders.
All fuel tanks are fabricated of Aircraft grade aluminum and not fiberglass like many other builders. Where fuel line fittings mate to the tanks all connections are welded and not bolted in as in fiberglass thanks, which can lead to leaks and diesel odors onboard. Over time fiberglass tanks can also begin to flake and cause fuel line blockages.
All mechanical equipment, including engines and generators are soft mounted in the hull to ensure no vibration which translates to a smooth and quiet ride. All fuel lines, piping and wiring are meticulously routed and labeled.
All deck hardware is of the highest quality 316 marine grade stainless steel with all welds filled and polished. All exterior fittings are properly bedded and solidly backed for proper fastening.
At Outer Reef Yachts we do not cut corners at the expense of quality and dependability.
